Hermann-Josef Scheich

Dear guests, dear friends of classical music,

For the first time, the castle Buchenau, community of Eiterfeld in March / April 2018 not far from the baroque city of Fulda and the festival town of Bad Hersfeld in the middle of the Rhön idyllically situated on a large park area, provides the setting for the International Music Festival "Buchenau Spring 2018". The content of the festival is to offer young musicians and students the opportunity to participate in cultural and music education, master classes, lecturers and students concerts. I am delighted that public master classes will be offered to participants from all over the world and from our region, internationally known and renowned professors, in which the young musicians can refine their skills. Educators for violin, viola, cello, piano and conducting will convey the subtle art of interpreting the instrumental playing to the active participating musicians and the audience present. Anyone who has experienced how young musicians full of vigour interpret the classics as well as modern music, will surely want to be there full of enthusiasm at the public concerts. An orchestra in full occupation and as a chamber orchestra accompanies the festival. For our market town, the neighboring districts of Fulda, Hersfeld-Rotenburg, Wartburgkreis and the spectators as well as the participants, the festival will certainly be a special event, rounded off with public concerts in various locations. A heartfelt thank you to the musicians who will be guests at Schloss Buchenau and delight us with their artistic creativity and ability to improvise. The market town of Eiterfeld is proud that the International Music Festival "Buchenau Spring 2018" takes place in the castle Buchenau and supports the project organisationally as well as with premises. I wish the audience a stimulating concert and the organizers a successful festival.

Regards

Hermann-Josef Scheich
Bürgermeister Marktgemeinde Eiterfeld.

Karl Josef Schwiddessen
Bürgermeister Petersberg

As a Mayor of Petersberg, I am very pleased that our Propsteihaus in Petersberg was chosen as the venue for concerts of the 1st and 2nd International Music Festival Buchenau 2018. The international music festival takes place in the castle Buchenau, Eiterfeld, and the students of the master classes with their professors give a large number of concerts in the region and we are pleased that Petersberg was selected as a venue for several concerts. In the ballroom of the Propsteihaus very special concerts will be heard, as the young artists perform chamber and orchestral music from different eras and countries. Even today, in our fast-paced, technological time, it is important to emphasize that musical talents are unfolded and discovered, making music happy and of great importance for the development of adolescents. Making music has a positive effect on creativity and concentration, on intelligence and determination, on self-confidence and team spirit. And to make music together connects across all differences. Music conveys competencies that are important in all areas of life today. That is another reason why such international music festivals are so in demand and important. A big thank you to the musicians and their professors and the organizers for giving us the opportunity to listen to their skills and to be seduced into the world of music. I wish the concerts a lot of success and wish all participants all the best on their further musical life and many successful performances.

Best regards,
Yours, Karl Josef Schwiddessen, Mayor.

All friends of classical music will enjoy a special cultural highlight in 2018. The Buchenau Festival will be bringing top-class musicians from the international classical music scene to our region on two dates - to Bad Hersfeld and the district of Fulda. The program includes masterclasses and concerts by and with soloists and world-class conductors for two weeks in both March and July. Some names will certainly cause ecstasy among connoisseurs, as a district administrator makes me particularly proud that the organizers from Berlin have just selected our district as the central place for it. With venues such as the Buchenau Castle, the Aula of the Old University and the Petersberg Propery House, we can provide rooms that meet the high standards of the music event. The really exciting thing about the festival, however, is for me the idea that not only professionals, but also music students from all over Germany put the program on their feet. What is the ultimate opportunity for young musicians to learn from great masters and to develop their skills in subjects such as violin, viola, cello and piano, becomes the sound experience for the visitors in the next step. The festival deliberately wants to build a bridge between professional musicians and lay people, open the doors of young musicians' education to a broad audience and, above all, spark enthusiasm for classical music. When one or the other visitor is woken up by the desire to learn an instrument himself, it fulfills its purpose once more. Especially in times of predominantly passive music consumption, it must also be a public interest to promote artistic talent. Music enjoys a high status in the district of Fulda, so I am sure that the festival will meet with an open-minded and curious audience. My thanks go to all those who have set up this event with great élan and passion. I wish all participants good luck and many inspirations for mutual learning from each other. I wish all visitors a lot of fun at the concerts.

Best regards,

Bernd Woide,
District Administrator
